From Umbreon to Tyranitar, there’s a vast handful of Dark-type Pokémon out there to catch in Pokémon GO. Dark-type Pokémon have been around in the franchise since ‘Generation II’ when they were added to directly contract and combat the Psychic Pokémon type’s dominance in ‘Generation I’. This guide article will follow the format of our other articles on catching different types of Pokemon and tell you the tricks and tips of how to begin catching the elusive Dark-type Pokémon in Pokémon GO.

I Need Those Pokémon! How can I get them?

There is an abundance of methods that you can follow in order to begin catching Dark-type Pokémon for your collection of loveable Pokémon. Firstly, the main method is to look in places that are significantly spooky or dark places. These could be areas such as cemeteries, cinemas, or other landmarks. As a disclaimer, always be safe and never venture into areas that could pose risk to yourself or others, the Pokemon will come to you in time, your health comes first.

Another method to catch the Pokémon is to trade with your friends for the ones they have already caught. In order to do this, meet up with your friend and be in at least 100 meters of them, afterwards navigate to the trading screen by pressing on your trainer profile. Go to the friends’ tab and open the list, press on your desired partner to trade with then tap on the trade button to enter into the trading screen.

From this point, your partner can decide what Pokémon they want to trade with you and then you will be able to obtain the dark-type Pokémon you want if they are extra tough to find through the game mechanics alone. The Pokémon’s HP, CP, and other notable stats are adjusted when you trade compared to what they are for your partner. This will be showcased to you before the trade on screen.
