Fallout 76: How to Claim Power Armor

In Fallout 76 Power Armor makes its return, but the way that you’re going to find it and use it is going to be very different from every other Fallout game.  Just like in other Fallout titles, players are going to encounter powerful suits around the world.  The difference is that you’re also sharing this world with other players, so you have to actually claim a power armor suit in Fallout 76.

Once you find Power Armor in Fallout 76, you going to have to walk up to and you can claim it by pressing the A/X button.  That is, assuming that someone else doesn’t already own it.  In the early game, if you find a power armor suit that has armor attached to it you may not be able to enter it without taking off the pieces first.  If that is the case, simply remove the high level armor pieces off of the armor and then claim the power armor chassis frame.   You can store the armor for later use in your stash or in your personal inventory.

Once you claim a Power Armor suit, it will be placed in your inventory.  If you are wearing the armor and would like to get out of it, you can do so by holding the A/X button.  When you get out of power armor in Fallout 76 this is where things get a little different than other games.  The armor will not stay in the world like in previous Fallout games it will disappear and then be accessible as an item in your inventory.  The power armor will take up space in your inventory so you’ll need to make a decision on where you want to keep the armor, whether that’s on your personal inventory or in a stash that frees up some space.

Once you have claimed Power Armor and keep it in your Stash or Personal Inventory no one else can use that Power Armor.  However, if you decide to drop power armor from your personal inventory it will no longer be claimed by you and any player in the world can then claim it for themselves.

The power armor in Fallout 76 still runs on Fusion Cores to make it run and do things like running and sprinting.  Once Fusion Cores are depleted the power armor won’t be as effective.
