The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD, How to Get the Hylian Shield
The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD offers you a variety of shield options, but we’ll be looking at how to get the Hylian Shield, as it is by far the best one in the game. Much like in Breath of the Wild, Skyward Sword features a durability system for all of the shields that you can get your hands on. But also like that game, the Hylian Shield stands out as being the one to rule them all, as it cannot actually break and has infinite durability. However, you cannot obtain it just by buying it from a vendor, instead, there’s a special way to get it. Be warned though, this shield can only be obtained after the game’s sixth dungeon, and as such there will be some minor spoilers for this portion of the game.
How to Get the Hylian Shield
The quest to obtain this shield only opens up once you have begun your journey to seek out the three dragons and learn their songs. One of these three dragons will be your guide when it comes to getting this shield, specifically you need to find Lanayru. This is the dragon of the Lanayru Desert, so if you want your prize you’ll need to first head here. The entrance to the dragon’s resting spot can be found in the same cave system where you met a goron who provided you with the means to reach the Sand Sea.
Go on through, and escort a minecart with a timeshift stone over to the bones so that you can speak with the dragon. You’ll be sent on a quest to plant an important seed that he needs in order to get better. If you’re having trouble finding a place for it, the answer is to plant the seed in Sealed Temple after going into the past. Bring him the fruit that grows in the present, and then he’ll teach you his part of the song and tell you that he’s going to be working on something special for you.
A Boss Rush is the Final Step
Simply leave the area and instantly come back in to get Lanayru to offer you a special trial. This trial is a Boss Rush of every single boss you’ve faced up until now, including every fight you’ve had with The Imprisoned so far. You’ll need to fight your way through eight bosses before the Hylian Shield is yours to take home. There’s a catch though, first off, you’ll only be able to bring in your currently equipped shield with you, no other pouch items are allowed. Secondly, you can only choose the first boss that you fight against, the rest of them will be sent at you in random order. So prepare yourself for a fight and head on in to claim your prize.
